Dr. Joseph Segal, CM, OBC, LL.D. (Hon) and Dr. Rosalie Segal, LL.D. (Hon) of Vancouver, British Columbia are named the 2005 recipients of Variety International – The Children’s Charity’s Humanitarian Award.

Variety International president Ory Slonim of Israel will present the organization’s highest honour to the Segals at the Variety International 2005 Humanitarian Award Dinner, sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company, on May 12, 2005, at the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Humanitarian Award is bestowed annually on individuals in recognition of their understanding and empathy for humanity. The Segals’ outstanding dedication to improving the lives of mankind is illustrated by their response to the needs of the people of their community and the world.

Variety International presented the inaugural Humanitarian Award in 1938 to Rev. Msgr. E.J. Flanagan, the founder of the Boys Town. The Segals join a list of distinguished persons who have received Variety International’s prestigious Humanitarian Award. Past Humanitarian Award honourees include Buzz Aldrin, Jerry Lewis, Roger Moore, Doctors Without Borders, Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, Sir Edmund Hillary, Mickey Weiss, Sumner M. Redstone, Arnold Palmer, HRH Princess Anne, Danny Thomas, Cardinal Terrence Cooke, Dr. Jonas Salk, Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Sir Winston Churchill, Henry A. Kissinger, Bob Hope, Helen Keller, and Herbert C. Hoover.

The 2005 Humanitarian Award Dinner is the official kick-off for the annual Variety International Convention. Variety International delegates and friends from around the world gather yearly to share ideas, receive information, renew friendships and create energy to further the mission to improve the lives of children around the world.
