Award-winning Television Creative

Produced at Channel M

Vancouver, BC (February 9, 2005) – Channel M was honoured at the 2005 Television Bureau of Canada’s Retail Commercial Awards with a First Place award and eight Honorable Mentions.   These award-winning commercials were all produced by Channel M’s Mick Harper and Ben Lu and their in-house creative team.

“We are extremely proud of our Commercial Production team and the advertising campaigns they have produced on behalf of our clients.” said Bruce Hamlin, Channel M’s Vice-President of Sales.  “Advertising in a viewer’s first language helps establish loyalty to a product or brand and our team clearly has the creativity and cultural sensitivity to produce award-winning commercials in any language”.

In the TVB’s Automotive Category, Channel M won first place for the “New Breed” advertising campaign for Mercedes Benz and received two of the three honorable mention positions for Metro Motors and Mini Richmond commercials.  Channel M also received fourth place recognition for “Station-produced Creative in all of Canada” for its Baby Fair commercial.  In TVB’s other award categories, Channel M received Honorable Mention for commercials produced for the Baby Fair, Fresh Slice Pizza, Thai House, Victoria Chinese Restaurant, Frontier Bridal and AIC Communications.  The majority of these English commercials were versioned in Cantonese, Mandarin or Punjabi as well.

The Television Bureau of Canada’s annual Retail Commercial Awards bring together some of the best work in Canadian television creative.  The TVB competition is unique in that the commercials are judged by consumers, based on how much they liked the commercial and the extent to which they were motivated to try or buy the product or services advertised.

Channel M is a free over-the-air television station broadcasting to three million Vancouver extended market viewers on cable 8, Express Vu 265 and on Vancouver Island/Sunshine Coast on cable 10.  The locally-owned station features newscasts in Cantonese, Mandarin and Punjabi, as well as public affairs, lifestyles and entertainment programming in more than 20 different languages and 65 hours a week of top-rated English language programming.
